Why moms should rethink the words "lose weight" and create a "lifestyle change" instead

So Cliché, LIFESTYLE CHANGE.  You have heard it before, but it’s the truth.  It is what I have built my business on.  It is what I believe, and what works.  After having a baby, most of us think, OMG, I have to lose weight, get back to pre baby weight, etc.  That is only a small part of what it should be.  You are a mom now, you have this beautiful creation to take care of, and you want to teach them healthy habits and ideas.  


Do you know what came up in my boot camp class this AM?  Our children are not expected to live as long as us.  The reason…OBESITY.  WOW.  This is a sad statement that I believe true.  As a parent, we should be teaching our kids healthy lifestyle.  We should be teaching them about why certain foods are bad, and why certain foods are good for them.  The excuse of "my kid won't eat that" is silly…it’s silly because there are so many options out there.  Parents just need to put in the effort.   And I am not talking just food.  I am also talking fitness.  Walking, running, biking, running an adventure race, etc.  Simple as setting up an obstacle course in your yard for your kids.  


Changing the way YOU think and changing the way you life YOUR lifestyle will in turn directly impact your kids.  So choose wisely.  And create a healthy lifestyle in your home.  I have worked with families and set up charts for them in their house that have challenged and motivated each other.  We have set up "the longest plank" chart, and "how many pushups you can do".  Even "how many skips of the jump rope can you do."  These were family challenges to help motivate a mom, a dad or a child.  Family helps each other to create a healthy lifestyle.  Pushing a little out of that comfort zone can really benefit everyone.

Follow the lead of NFL Hall of Famer, Harry Carson and 4-time Olympic Medalist, Christie Rampone! Together with a friend, set some goals, get active and start eating better. Then encourage one another to stick with it. Do it every day and you both win.

Sheila, totally agree.  The only way to take weight off and keep it off is to change your lifestyle.  :-)  If we think that way, we can create healthy families and in turn decrease the obesity rate in our kids, not to mention this also helps with PPD!

So true, Lori. "On a diet" seems so temporary, but "lifestyle change" is permanent and positive!
