I learned this week that resolutions are so last year. Outdated. Gone. Instead, they are being replaced by mantras; phrases or words by which you live your life. The mantras are broader, more general terms by which you reinvent yourself and achieve your goals throughout the year.
I like the idea of replacing resolutions with a word or mantra for the year. I've asked around, and almost everyone seems to be adopting one. Here are some examples of mantras and words that I've heard from family members, friends, and colleagues:
Create
Inspire
Courage
Believe
Aspire
Influence
Help
Creativity
Be open
Travel
Learn
Accept
The possibilities are endless. What I love most about the mantras and words to live by is that they are all-encompassing. They can apply to personal or professional growth. They can pertain to physical change or mental growth. Because they are broader, mantras can cover many aspects of growth and change. We so often paint ourselves into corners with our resolutions because they are limiting. When we fail to achieve them, we become frustrated and defeated.
Mantras offers us flexibility and room to grow throughout the year. Afterall, isn't that the goal of a resolution; to achieve personal growth?
Have you made any resolutions this year? If you have not, would you be more likely to adopt a mantra rather than make a resolution? If so, what would your mantra be?

Great idea! Resolutions seem to have taken on a negative connotation, where mantras are so positive and empowering. Thanks!!
I like this idea, as it doesn't set you up for failure, like resolutions do. Resolutions are great, but most of us don't stick to them throughout the year.
Thank you!
Great post Sheila!
