How to Organize Baby's Closet Space

Organizing a baby’s closet is much different than yours because the items are so itty bitty. However, good news is you can fit so much more in the space!

First, install adjustable shelving to make the most of the vertical space in the closet. Babies require very little hanging space, so having the option to remove a shelf when your baby grows, is a great way to maximize space now.

Place no more than two categories of items per shelf. For example, socks in a basket and shoes can sit next to the basket on the same shelf, a box of memorabilia on another, extra blankets in a basket and toys on another shelf, and so on.

Next, use the appropriate sized hangers for little clothing and include dividers to easily identify the different sizes. For example, newborn, 3-6 months, 6-12 months, etc. Separating the clothing will allow you to easily transition from one size to another without having to check clothing labels.

To manage the outgrown clothing, keep a clear covered container on a shelf to place outgrown items so you can instantly store them once your baby moves into the next size. Remember to label each container. Once the container is full, store it elsewhere in the home (the attic or basement) to make room for a container for the next outgrown size. The closet space in the bedroom should contain only relevant items, otherwise it can easily become confusing as to what is current.

Containing clothing items in bins, baskets or containers—especially when using closet shelving—will help you maintain organization and easily find what you’re searching for when you need it!
