Finding time for yourself is hard as a mom. Finding time for you AND your husband to reconnect and have a nice conversation, perhaps a yummy dinner…now that can be close to impossible!
At my house, since we have two toddlers who go to bed around 8-9p, it's become the monthly challenge to find a sitter, find a night my husband can guarantee to be home in time, and then find a restaurant that's open late. (Which may explain why this week we skipped dinner, and went to play billiards for 2 hours when my mother in law was watching the kids. The next day we did dual massages at a place that was running specials. Everything was sooooooo fun! We've done bowling before, too. I kind of like doing different things besides dinner here and there. Spice it up!)
We try to make to make it a point to go out solo at least once a month (sometimes two!). BYO places are big hits with us, so we don't have to worry about breaking the bank just to have a nice convo over a yummy meal. We often prefer to go out on weekdays (to avoid waiting for tables at our favorite Shore restaurants, which usually have waits on weekends), and it seems to be working for us.
One thing that's been working for us (especially because our "date nights" are usually late, like after 9pm), is doing a babysitter swap with some mom friends of mine. I'll watch their kids one night, and then we'll reverse it the following time. Sure saves $60 for babysitters! (Apologies to my awesome regular sitters -- we haven't forgotten you!)
Also, we don't ALWAYS have to go out. We are perfectly happy to sit and watch a movie once the kids are asleep. That's definitely the cheapest route, haha! Movies on demand, a nice bottle of wine, a roaring fire in the fireplace (now that it's colder -- my husband loves to make a fire…he could watch it for hours!). You don't have to do anything fancy just to have a "date night" -- just committing to make the time to spend quality time together is what's important. And healthy for your marriage and keeping up all levels of communication.
Right now, Jersey Shore Restaurant Week is going on -- and you can snag amazing meals at some of the area's top restaurants. I highly recommend checking out your old faves, or testing a new place. Three-course dinners are just $30/pp. Moonstruck, Langosta Lounge, McCloones, The Black Trumpet, La Dolce Vita, Harpoon Willy's, just to name a few.
Happy eating! And hope you mamas get to GET OUT and have some nice dates with your significant others....let me know if you succeed and have fun!
