Creative Date Night Ideas With Your Spouse

I will be honest: we don't do many date nights. But we SHOULD.

I am definitely one of those wives that likes to do things besides plain-old-dinner-and-a-movie for when we get to go out sans kids. My husband playfully makes fun of me when I counter his "Where do you want to go out to dinner next Friday?" with, "Hey, how about paintball or mini-golf?"

I loathe boring date nights. I like to do fun, creative, interesting, out-of-the-box things...probably because we hardly ever go out these days, so I like to make the most of our special, alone-time together.

So, here are some of my date-night ideas, and they aren't all places we have been to before. Some of these ideas are definitely on my Parent's Night Out Bucket List.

1) Aforementioned mini golf. There's a cute place on the Asbury Park Boardwalk (when it's warmer out), Monster Golf in Eatontown off Hope Road, and the new Glow Golf inside the Monmouth Mall. Sure, my hubby does play golf, so it's extra fun whenever I beat him in a round of putt-putt.

2) Seaside Park/Jenkinson's. Go see the colorful sights, grab a huge slice of pizza, and play some boardwalk games.

3) Great Adventure. (OK, so I have to remember to stop calling it Six Flags, because I have been told any respectable New Jerseyan only refers to it as GA!) Go at night when there's less crowds, though you may feel a bit old among all the teens. Still, how many dates can take you on a rollercoaster ride?

4) Go bounce at a trampoline place. For my 40th birthday last year, after bugging my hubby for months, he finally surprised me by taking me to SkyZone in Ocean Township. I felt like a kid in gymnastics class (warning: don't do this if you're not super flexible, IMHO! And be careful!). There are a few trampoline places around the Jersey Shore that have late hours for the kids-at-heart.

5) Couples massage. Not something to do spontaneously because reservations are usually required in advance, but ahhhhh.....oooooohhhhhh.

6) Paint some pottery/canvas. There are quite a few DIY ceramic shops and painting places around. This would be a fun date night because you can actually take home something that you do/experience together!

7) Play a sport: dodgeball or racquetball. Go outside your athletic skill set and play!

8) Just go get ice cream. Chat at the café tables at your nearest frozen yogurt joint, coffeehouse, or ice cream parlor. It might actually feel like you're on one of your old-school dates from when you were first starting to get to know each other.

Who else has some unusual, or different date-night ideas? Let me know! I'll just need to book a sitter, now!

There is a new place in Red Bank called "Escape the Room".  I think that would be a great date night!
