Rock it, Woman!

“I say,

It's in the click of my heels,

The bend of my hair,

the palm of my hand,

The need of my care,

'Cause I'm a woman

Phenomenal woman,

That's me.”…

Things We Didn't Say...

“Your mother is in A-fib. We can run some tests, but there is a good chance it will result in us having to crack her chest open.”

Not the words you want to hear when you are alone in a hospital in NYC as you watch your mother dying from pancreatic cancer. Not really the words you want to hear,…

I Bought My Ticket...

Every time my husband does something that makes my eyes roll, he says, “You bought your ticket…you knew what you were getting!”

If you know us, you are laughing right now. It’s so us.…

Hitting My Stride

Life is funny – just when you hit your stride, it throws you a curveball. Sometimes its minor. Sometimes it’s a doozy.

I’m not just talking about…

To Know Thyself is To Love Thyself

It’s New Year’s Day.  I am doing what most people do: Thinking about all the things I want to do better, change, improve, etc.  You get the picture.

Like sugarplums, visions of becoming a strong, lean, determined, amazing woman are…

Celebrate Small Wins

“I had a good day!”

Such music to my ears! It was the first thing I heard as I walked in the door. I literally danced over to my son and gave him a high five, lifted him up, and celebrated…

“At 42, be better than 24.” -- Jay Z

On the eve of my 43rd birthday I thought a lot about this quote from Primetime – a song I love by an artist I love even more.    While the all the lyrics don’t directly apply to my life (Jay Z and I have had slightly different paths) the message resonates.   I am in my primetime.

I will make the bold statement:…

The Two Most Important Letters in Mother’s Day: M.E.?

Like every mom, there are times when I doubt my ability.

Do I spend too much time working? Do I hover too much, overprotecting my son? Am I providing enough intellectually stimulating activity or do I allow him to watch too much TV? (Team Umizoomi does teach mighty math skills: that’s intellectually stimulating, right?) Do I have the right parenting style? Am I the Perfectionist Mother or the Complete Mother?

Open any magazine and you will be exposed ideals and great… Continue

Every so often, I pause and take a mental snapshot.  I marinate in the moment.  I just step back and enjoy the wonder…

Life on the Seesaw

I am sitting in Dallas International Airport, computer on my lap and guilt gifts at my feet, waiting patiently (well, as patient as I can be) for my delayed flight to take off so I can get home to my boy.

I have just spent a truly fulfilling week at a conference: learning, connecting, getting inspired and feeling a little guilty.  It’s hard not to feel guilty when you go on work-vacation: the term my husband used to explain my trip to my son. And, while that description infuriated me…

The Rules of Pregnancy

As a first time mom-to-be of "advanced maternal age" I have been super careful about following the rules of pregnancy. I stay away from cold cuts, limit my caffeine, ask if the mozzarella is pasteurized, and I haven't even looked at artificial sweeteners. On the flip side, I have friends who don't follow the rules and have very healthy babies. I came across this article on the rules of pregnancy and found it interesting that there is a conference in England to explore whether or not the…
