Important to Choose the Right Doctor when Preparing to Have a Baby

Major life decisions deserve thorough research and evaluation, and selecting the right obstetrician as you start a family is no different. If you’re getting ready to become pregnant or suspect that you might be pregnant, you should make sure you choose a doctor that you are comfortable with for the long journey ahead.

Your obstetrician will be by your side for the next nine months, so take the time to meet with and select the person you think will be best for the job. Talk to friends… Continue

The Rules of Pregnancy

As a first time mom-to-be of "advanced maternal age" I have been super careful about following the rules of pregnancy. I stay away from cold cuts, limit my caffeine, ask if the mozzarella is pasteurized, and I haven't even looked at artificial sweeteners. On the flip side, I have friends who don't follow the rules and have very healthy babies. I came across this article on the rules of pregnancy and found it interesting that there is a conference in England to explore whether or not the…

Get Your Kids to Log Off

TV and video games have robbed children of outside play for years. Most U.S. homes now have a personal computer, too. About a third of kids ages 8 to 18 have a computer in their room. That has health experts casting a wary eye on PCs, as well.…

Best OB Experience

I had both of my children at JSUMC. My first was delivered by emergency C-section. by Dr Van Horn. Every team player was incredibly knowledgeable, compassionate and empathetic. They acted quickly and efficiently to ensure the health of me and my baby, all the while calming me. My son was in NICU for 4 days and the nurses all worked together between OB and NICU to keep me and my family informed and educated. My second son was delivered as a planned C section by Dr Walsh. which was a bit… Continue

Best OB and Best Delivery Experience at OMC!

Okay so if you are looking for a great OB- Brielle Obstretrics and Gynecology- is an awesome group! I can honestly say, that each doctor is amazing! I ended up having a c-section at OMC at the very last minute, and the L & D staff there is fabulous. I was completly nervous, being that this was my first pregnancy, and I felt totally safe and in capable hands. Everyone says what a horrible experince the c-section is, and how much they hated it. The aftereffects are not appealing yes, however… Continue

Keep Your Kids Safe from Poisoning

People of any age can become ill if they come into contact with certain medications, household pesticides, chemicals, cosmetics, or plants. However, children, in particular, continue to face a greater risk of unintentional poisoning death and exposure than adults - not only can a smaller dose of substance be toxic, but it is also harder to quantify the ingested drug or chemical.…

Best OB Experience

I am getting ready for the birth of my first child, in November. I could have not asked for better doctors.

Dr. VanHorn & Dr. Fernandez have been wonderful. They have taken the time to answer any questions, and take the time to include my husband in them as well. I have been lucky with an uneventful 17 weeks so far. The rare time I had a concern or question, the doctors & their staff have been amazing. I am so glad we decided to go with them.

Best "Mom" Experience

I highly recommend my OB/GYN of Riverview Women Health with Dr. Kakiw, Dr. Hammond, etc... I am new to the area and pregnant with my first child. I have never had such thorough exams before and during pregnancy. They are a wonderful team of doctors who are always happy to see you. I feel extremely comfortable knowing they will be the one's delivering my baby.

Best OB Experience

I am currently pregnant and I have been suffering from severe migraines throughout the pregnancy, I had called my OB on a Friday afternoon and she called in some medications for me that day. What really made this a terrific experience is that on that following Monday, Dr. Massey's nurse had called to follow up on my migraine and see how I was feeling. I have never had a Dr. or nurse call me to follow up and see how I was feeling. That truly was a "WOW" moment for me. Also,… Continue

What to Expect For PreNatal Care

The importance of early prenatal medical care:

As soon as a woman discovers she is pregnant, she should establish a schedule of prenatal care with her physician for the entire duration of the pregnancy. For normal pregnancies without significant complications, prenatal exams are usually scheduled as follows:

  • every month from the 1st week through the 28th week

  • every two weeks from the 29th week through the 36th week

  • weekly from the…
