Earthquakes and Hurricanes, Oh My!

In my life I've only been through one hurricane, Gloria, in 1985. I remember my parents boarding the windows and moving the furniture away from the windows. I don't remember worrying about anything, but then I was only seven and most likely believed my parents could protect me from anything.



Now that I'm a mom myself I know the worries we go through and how much we want to protect our kids but can't say for sure that we can.

Can I Get My Marbles Back?

I grew up in Bergen County, New Jersey when the term “mall” referred to a bunch of stores that were attached so you could park in one place and shop at all the stores at the same time.  The Bergen Mall was the first enclosed shopping precinct I remember; it had an amusement park on the top.  The Garden State Plaza was strictly an outdoor mall and even after Paramus Park (the third jewel in the commercial crown) was built, I believe the GSP was the last mall to become enclosed.  They…

You Can Get Your Child to Eat Healthy, It Just Takes Work!

 

I was watching the news last night and saw a piece on how cartoon characters directly effect what our kids want to eat.  For example, Tony the tiger, or SpongeBob are on boxes and packaging.  If you have young kids, you know how true this is.  It is amazing what a character will do to your kids thinking of what is healthy to eat!  My question is this…WHY have healthier food companies not jumped on this bandwagon?  Why not have pictures of Dora on a box of…
