QUINOA! An easy healthy recipe for everyone!

The "Gold Of The Incas"...Quinoa.  The name just makes me happy.  What is Quinoa, and why does it make me so happy?  This ancient grain is on the comeback.  This love of mine is a complete protein, whole grain, delivers 20% of our daily fiber requirement and also considered a relative to green leafy vegetables like spinach and swiss chard.  I also love the fact i can eat it for a meal, snack, breakfast and throw it in muffins,…

5 Top Summer Safety Tips

Added by Hackensack Meridian Health on June 25, 2012 at 2:36pm — No Comments

It is only the second day of summer vacation, so why do I feel like I have already had enough.  One reason might be because my boys like to rise before 6.  Thus, here I am at 9 am feeling tired.  The weather hasn't been great either.  I wish it would just rain or let the sun shine, makes planning much more difficult.

As a kid, I remember summer being my favorite time of year.  I still look foward to summer as a parent too.  But I have to say, what a very different experience.  Summer…

The Tale of the Mommy Ransom Box

Two things you will not hear this summer in my house:

1.  "If you don't clean up this playroom, I am going to clean up this playroom with a garbage bag!"

2.  "If you clean your playroom, Mommy will let you stay up fifteen minutes late."

You see, I will not rely on threats and bribes to keep my house clean this summer while the kiddies are home from school.  Instead, I will rely on this nifty little box I've made.  {It reads: You left it out, I picked it up. I've got your…

And, while I firmly believe that's true, it really helps for moms to have their own support network, too.  I cannot imagine NOT having my core group of 15 or so moms that I hang out with, commiserate with, plan activities with, and laugh with.

I am so thankful I was a part of the New Mom's Group at JSUMC after giving birth to my first child.  I was on maternity leave less…

New Moms: It Gets Better

I was in church the other day watching a mom deal with a baby that was around 8-9 months old. I say deal, because that's just what she was doing. I thought he was as cute as can be, but that's because he wasn't mine.

He was doing that screech thing babies that age do, where they clearly would be telling a grand story if they had the words but instead they're just…

Olympic Roster Set…18 Players and 4 Alternates headed to London!

One of the most difficult things in sports is the final roster.  Our team trains year round and we have a group of probably 35 players that come in and out.  These girls and women become your friends and are always competing with you, while following their dream.  When the coaches announce the final list of players going to a World Championship, there are a lot of emotions.  Everyone can only imagine how hard it is for the players who work so hard but in the end fall a little short of making…
