Martial Arts and My Kids

Martial Arts begins with self-discipline, or what I like to call a “non-quitting spirit”.

But…before self-discipline can be developed, discipline must come from an external source, your instructor. Once a child starts to achieve, they begin to apply self-discipline, which leads to greater achievement, and achievement develops confidence.…

In Search of My Village- "Weight loss"

I went back today. Back to the Weight Loss Center.

I tried it online for a few months. I tracked and measured. I thought I could do it alone. I know the drill by now.

I did alright. Not great, but alright. My habits have changed so that I eat pretty healthy, most of the time these days and I exercise somewhat regularly too. But the ugly truth remains, with no one to answer to, I am not as disciplined with the tracking and as honest with my portions as I should be. Alone, I am…

My little one has been coughing and sneezing a lot. Cold or Allergies?

If your child catches more than his or her share of colds or gets colds that linger beyond the usual week or two, he or she could have allergies. Colds and allergies share many of the same symptoms, including:

  • A runny or stuffy nose
  • Sneezing

Experts Put First-Time Mom at Ease

As a new mom, Thea Jackson was overjoyed to give birth to her daughter, Michelle Jackson-Byers, in May 2010. But when the Lakewood resident brought Michelle in for an unrelated issue, nurse practitioner Margaret Quinn, CNP, noticed that the baby's head had grown too much since her last checkup. She also had "sunsetting" eyes,…

Stomach Bug/Fever - Virus/Flu -- What on Earth Can We Do as Parents?

I can hear the call Mommy I don’t feel well! Right away I know that the long night is going to arrive. Nothing is worse to me then having my children home sick. I just wish I could take on the bug maybe shed some pounds in the meantime.  LOL.  I guess…
