What to Choose: To Love, To Teach, and To Stare

Sometimes at night I stare at my children. Their eyes closed, lips slightly pursed, eyebrows relaxed, cheeks red and round.  Sound asleep… chest barely rising.  If I look long enough, I am able to catch a glimpse of the future.  Their faces morph and I am transported ahead fifteen years.

What a Mess! Encouraging Kids to Pitch In

I can remember way back when, to the days before I had children. We would visit friends and their children, and I'd notice that toys, crafting supplies, and sometimes food were strewn all over their houses. "I'll never let that happen in my home!", I would say condescendingly.

On this last birthday, I reflected on…

Decorating for Kids' Birthday Parties... The Theme? Philanthropy!

If you read my former article, you know that my second son was born with a solitary kidney.  By his first birthday, he had been through more than a little body's fair share of invasive medical procedures.  So, his first birthday was very special to our family, a life to be celebrated to the fullest extent of happiness and fun.

But being the second son, I thought to…
