I'm a work-at-home mom to a 9 year old special needs boy. I love the internet (after all, its home to all my friends!), photography, digital scrapbooking and am an avid reader. I'm helplessy addicted to coffee (especially those yummy pumpkin spice lattes!) and have just taken up knitting.

Finding Time for Me, a Working Mom

If someone asks my occupation there are numerous answers I can give: mom, wife, technical assistant, chauffeur, teacher, chef, doctor, and so on. (You get the idea.) But most important of all (even more important than a mom, I know, crazy) is that I am ME. I may be and do all those things, but if I don't take care of ME, the actual person I am, none of those other jobs/careers/occupations will ever turn out the way they are supposed to. And I'm learning that the hard way.The baby just turned 8…See More

Separation Anxiety Ideas?

Hi!The baby just hit 8 months old and separation anxiety is a HUGE issue here. It's been getting steadily worse the past two months, but now, now it's just pull your hair out stressful. (According to her pediatrician, she's fine - it's normal anxiety, just at a high level.)She will sit on her own and play, but then there are times where as soon as her feet hit the floor she's screaming. She definitely does not like my husband (she'll look at him screaming as if to say "THIS is NOT my mom!") and…See More

Toy Safety

The holidays are upon us and a good chunk of us are enduring the hustle and bustle for toys—either for our own kids or others' kids. With so many toys out there, it can be overwhelming deciding on an appropriate toy for each kid. But toys need not be a dirty, dreaded word. Arm yourself with some toy safety buying knowledge and you'll be on your way to being the supreme toy giver (unless you believe in Santa—no one can top him!).When choosing toys, keep the child's age, interest and skill level…See More

Ok, who needs a nap?

As a mom to a four month old and a ten year old, I certainly do. But then, nothing would ever get done. So how about getting the kiddos to nap. My son was so much easier when he was an infant. He'd fall asleep anywhere. Seriously. He'd fall asleep while in his exersaucer. …See More

Earthquakes and Hurricanes, Oh My!

In my life I've only been through one hurricane, Gloria, in 1985. I remember my parents boarding the windows and moving the furniture away from the windows. I don't remember worrying about anything, but then I was only seven and most likely believed my parents could protect me from anything.

Now that I'm a mom myself I know the worries we go through and how much we want to protect our kids but can't say for sure that we can.

To make matters…
