My daughter was an only child for 5 years before her brother came along. He's now four, and I'm not sure how to deal with the constant rivalry and jealousy, which is mostly initiated on her part. She…Continue

Ideas for snow fun

Anyone have creative ideas to keep the kids occupied in the snow? We broke out the beach buckets and sand toys, and that kept my 3 year old entertained while I shoveled. My 8 year old and her friends…Continue

What's normal sibling rivalry?

My daughter was an only child for 5 years before her brother came along. He's now four, and I'm not sure how to deal with the constant rivalry and jealousy, which is mostly initiated on her part. She constantly acts like a mother towards him, being bossy. If someone asks him a question, she jumps in and answers it before he can get a word in. We are constantly addressing it with her, which I know she resents, and then causes tension between her and us, grandparents, babysitter, etc. She's a…See More

Sleepover party worries

My second grade daughter just came home with a birthday invitation for a classmate, and it is a sleepover party (girls only) in three weeks. They are close classroom friends, but have never played outside school. Other than meeting the mother once very briefly at the start of the school year at another child's party, I don't know the family. I'm now having flashbacks to when I was in thrid grade and my mother wouldn't let me attend a sleepover birthday because she didn't know the family. I was…See More
