My ten week old son absolutely HATES being placed on his stomach!!! We've tried mirrors and toys on the floor, propping him up under his chest, etc. and nothing helps. He just goes ballistic. Does anyone have any tips for a very frustrated mom?? My husband and I try to squeeze in a few minutes a day by placing him on your chests. He still cries a lot, but not the bloody murder he usually screams on the floor!

I know this might sound lame...but have you tried singing to him while doing tummy time? As a first time mom, it's often difficult to start with the whole "singing nursery rhyme thing" without feeling like a complete idiot...but honestly, it works wonders. Or maybe try giving him tummy time as part of a bath routine, i.e. after he takes a bath, give him a rub down with lotion and give him a few moments of tummy time then?
Have you tried getting down on the floor way down on his level? My son didn't like it much either, but I would get down literally down on my stomach too, often with my face to the floor talking to him, or singing to him (I know!), patting his back gently but firmly, because they often have gas that hurts, that being on stomache relieves... Also, a daycare taught me that my son liked being on the hoppy pillow kind of hung over with his arms over the edge and the mirror propped up in front of him so he has to lift his head up to see.

The boppy thing works for us too. Jack loves being on his tummy on the boppy. Actually, that's the way I burp him after he eats...works like a charm and his neck gets great exercise!
I just wrote a blog post about this topic. Check it out at http://themamablog.com/uncategorized/4-tips-for-tummy-time/. We also work on tummy time during our classes at Gymboree Play & Music as well.
Thanks everyone! He has really taken to his boppy in the last few weeks. I guess he was finally ready!
